Light is one of the key factors needed to grow healthy and thriving plants, but not all light is made equal! That's why in addition to Gardyn's LED lights providing the full spectrum of light your plants need, we've also designed your columns to offer a variety of light intensities for each of your plants' unique light requirements.

Tips to Keep in Mind when Placing Plants on Your Gardyn

  • Use this guide as our recommendations for ideal spots, but remember that just like in nature, plants can typically thrive within a range of environmental conditions.

  • If, based on the set of plants you currently wish to grow, you find you can't fit every plant into its ideal zone, don't sweat it! Aim for the next light intensity zone down.

    • For example, if you're out of moderate intensity spots for a certain plant, it should do just fine in a minimum intensity spot.

  • Aim to keep fruiting plants in the center of your Gardyn, where the light reaches maximum intensity. Most Gardyners don't end up with more fruiting plants than maximum intensity spots.

    • The exception is Cucumbers, which we recommend placing in the bottom spot on your middle column. This allows the vine to grow upward, keeping the majority of the plant in the maximum intensity area.

  • If you're transitioning your Microgreens to your Gardyn to grow Baby Greens, placement does not matter!

Bonus Tips to Keep in Mind for Sufficient Light & Airflow

  • When Kelby alerts you that it's time to thin (which means removing some sprouts in each yCube), be sure you do! Thinning gives you big, healthy, better-tasting plants and more to harvest than if you let multiple sprouts compete for the same, limited nutrients.

  • All plants need 14-16 continuous Boost hours daily for healthy (and fastest!) growth.

  • As your plants mature, avoid grouping larger plants together so no plant blocks another's light.

  • Consider leaving spots above and around large plants covered instead of filled with other plants. Gardyn Caps are an easy solution for this!

  • Harvest frequently and prune as needed to control your plants' size.
