Origin

Wheatgrass has been used for over 5,000 years, with its origins in Egyptian and Ayurvedic medicine. Wheatgrass made its way to modernity through the agricultural chemist Dr. Charles Schnabel, who experimented with Wheatgrass in the 1930s. Dr. Schnabel’s research sparked public interest in using Wheatgrass for personal health benefits.

Qualities

Wheatgrass is a flat, coarse, green grass that is a member of the wheat family. It grows 8-10 inches tall and has a mildly sweet, green, grass-like flavor. It is considered a superfood that contains iron, calcium, amino acids, and vitamins A, C, E, K, and B. Wheatgrass is said to help boost metabolism and the immune system, and aid in digestion.

Use

Wheatgrass is primarily used in wellness shots, juices, and smoothies for a quick boost of vitamins and minerals. It can also be dried and powdered, then added as a supplement to any dish.

Care & Harvest

✂️ Pruning: Check the roots monthly and trim any that are brown or extending past the yPod.

🌾 Harvest: Harvest when leaves reach at least 4 inches tall by bunching the blades you want to cut with one hand and using clean scissors to cut through them with the other hand. For multiple harvests, leave behind at least 2 inches to continue growing.
