Qualities
Add a burst of color and heat to your Gardyn with the Purple Cayenne Pepper. These slender, 3-6 inch pods start deep purple and ripen vibrant red, packing a spicy punch at 30,000-50,000 Scoville Heat Units - much hotter than a jalapeno. Along with their striking appearance, Purple Cayenne Peppers offer a slightly sweeter flavor than typical cayennes.
Use
Purple Cayenne Peppers deliver bold heat and vibrant color to any dish. Add them fresh to salads or sandwiches, toss into stir-fries or salsas, pickle for a spicy snack, or dry for homemade chili flakes. These slender pods bring a sweet, fiery kick wherever you enjoy them.
Care & Harvest
π‘Temperature: Prefers warmer temperatures (70-85Β°F).
π Pollination: Peppers require pollination. White and purple flowers develop 4-6 weeks after sprouting. To encourage root and foliage development, remove the first set of flower buds. Once subsequent flowers appear, hand-pollinate them by gently shaking the entire plant to distribute, or use your finger or small brush to gently rub the inside of blossoms.
π«Ά Support: We suggest using our Plant Belt to support the plant and its heavy fruit as it matures.Β
βοΈ Pruning: Prune your pepper plant to keep it within the Gardyn lights. Trim back branches and leaves, remove any yellow or brown foliage, and check roots monthly - snipping any that are brown or growing past the yPod.
π Plant Health: Gardyn peppers are prolific producers, even if they show signs of Edema, a harmless disorder. Aphids are a common pest, but you can use our prevention tricks to keep them at bay!
πΆ Harvest: Harvest when yellow for peak heat by cutting each pepper at its individual stem. When peppers are around 3 inches long, harvest them at the green stage for a slightly milder flavor or for maximum heat, wait until they turn purple. Cut each pepper at itβs individual stem.
