Troubleshooting Dry yCubes or Uneven Water Flow Through the Columns

If, after a watering cycle, you notice:

• Only the lowermost plants/yCubes are wet in a column, and everything above is dry, or

• Dry and wet patches are mixed together anywhere on a column, or

• Water is coming out the top of a column instead of trickling down, or

• An entire column stays dry with no water reaching any yCube, or

• All of the columns are completely dry, or

• Water is coming out between the water tank and lid but you're sure your tank is not overfilled (your app home screen will tell you if it's overfilled).

The cause is almost always a hose issue preventing the water from running up and down your full columns. Find the symptom below that matches what you're seeing.

It's highly likely the irrigation hose inside the column isn't properly connected to the lid, preventing water from running up and down the full column. Here's how to check and reattach it:

• Pull out the bottom-most yPod in the column so you can see inside its base. You shouldn't have to remove the columns!

• Depending on your Gardyn type and model, there are three different connectors you may see:

On Gardyn Home 3-4 and Gardyn Studio 1-2, the connector is flexible and appears white or grey (A). It fits directly onto the cylindrical opening inside the lid's base for the column.

• If you don't see the hose end/connector, reach in and pull it down from inside the column. It's likely hiding just out of sight. The hoses are flexible, so don't worry about pulling firmly!

• Push the connector down firmly onto the cylindrical opening until it's flush with the base's bottom for a snug fit.

On Gardyn Home 2, you'll see white and blue quick connectors (B). On Gardyn Home 1, you'll see either the white and blue quick connectors or a black elbow connector (C).

• If they're loose or disconnected, connect them now. Both versions should feel snug when fully connected.

This is most likely a pinched hose somewhere inside the column, though a hole in the hose is also possible. To check:

• Remove the top yPod on the column, then run a manual watering cycle to see whether water flows evenly down the column.

• Remove the metal bar and upper blades from the back of the column, then twist the top module off to look inside.

• Pull out each yPod along the column. The hose behind each one should look straight, not looped or bent.

• If a hose is bent or pinched, straighten it by gently pulling it from inside the column.

• If straightening doesn't resolve it, the hose may have a hole. Take photos and reach out to our support team for further help.

This means the hose in the top column module isn't seated or arched correctly, so water isn't trickling down as intended.

• Remove the metal bar and upper blades from the back of the column, then twist the top module off to look inside. See How to Check the Irrigation Hoses for the full steps.

• For Gardyn Home 1 only: the hose needs to be threaded directly into the cylindrical tube in the upper column module. All other models work correctly regardless of where the hose rests in the top module.

• Reposition the hose so it arches down into the column rather than spraying out the top, then run a manual watering cycle to confirm.

Check the hose connector at the lid (see the first section above), and check for kinks along the column (see the second section above). If both look correct but the column is still dry, the hose may be disconnected at the pump exhaust or splitter inside the lid, which needs the Gardyn disassembled to check. Since every column is affected, start with the column-level checks above: the base connector, kinks inside the column, and the top module seating, for each column.
