Troubleshooting Leaking Columns

Edited

If water is leaking from your Gardyn's column modules or yPods yet there are no signs of damage to the column, here are some steps to help identify the cause and stop the leak.

Check Assembly Basics

Leaking can happen when some aspect of the assembly is off slightly. Here are some assembly basics you can check.

Irrigation Hoses

Make sure the irrigation hose is not causing interference with the yPod sitting flush with the column. When you pull the yPod out, the hose should be straight behind it, like this:

Below is an example of a water hose incorrectly installed.

yCube & yPod Position

Every yCube should be fully flush with its yPod, and all yPods should be fully inserted and flush with the columns.

Check Leaves and Roots

When you have mature plants, water can be drawn up through the root system and the leaves, causing water to sometimes drip from leaf tips.

Roots can also clog the columns and cause the water to divert improperly when they're overgrown. Check your columns to make sure they're clear of roots, and learn more about checking and pruning your plants' roots with our guide on Plant Root Care.

Is your Gardyn due for a deep clean?

Large mineral calcifications (crust) from plant food can cause small seams in the columns for the water to escape through. You can keep this crust at bay by periodically wiping your columns with a soft cloth. If the calcification is severe enough, it may be time to consider a deep clean to get your Gardyn back to its shiny self.

Shift the yPods around your Gardyn

You can also try shifting the yPods around your Gardyn and see if the leak remains in that same location or if it follows the yPod.
