My yCube/plant didn't sprout or grow. Now what?
First, don't sweat it! We'll replace them
Sometimes seeds just don't grow, which is why we have our 100% sprout guarantee. We will give you replacement credits to replace any unsprouted (dud) yCubes, meaning any that show no signs of growth after 28 days on your Gardyn.
Ok, how do I get those credits?
Simply reach out to us at support@mygardyn.com or via chat on the website to receive your replacement plant credits and we will be happy to assist you.
What do I do with the yCubes that didn't grow?
You have two options here, and it's totally up to you!
A. Give them more time
Some seeds are just late bloomers and can take up to around 6 weeks to sprout! Even if you receive replacement credits, you might want to consider giving your yCube a couple more days or weeks to see if it grows after all. Who doesn't like more plants, right?
Before removing the unsprouted yCubes from your Gardyn, manually activate a watering cycle from your app by tapping the Water Level tile, then toggling water to on (green). This will give your yCubes a drink of water before removing them so they have plenty of moisture to continue germinating.
Move the unsprouted yCube off your Gardyn and into a Nursery (or tray with a ventilated lid) to keep it safe from any plant food you add to your Gardyn. Plant food prevents sprouting, contrary to what it might sound like!
Remove the now-empty yPods and add opaque covers, like Gardyn Caps, to help prevent interior algae growth along with anything unwanted from entering your Gardyn. Hand wash and air dry the yPods for later use. If you're using the older Pod Caps instead, keep the yPod in place to ensure the cap fits correctly.
B. Reuse the yCube materials
If you don't feel like waiting for any late sprouts, you may use the yCube's rockwool in any indoor or outdoor planting to aid with water retention. Just know that once the yCube comes into contact with dirt, you should never return it to your Gardyn to prevent cross-contamination. Rockwool is literally made of rocks, so while it won't break down in a compost pile, it's an especially great add to dry pots.
