How Does the Environment Impact Plants' Growth?

Environment - or in the case of your Gardyn, room environment -  is one of the key factors that affect plants' growth. While your Gardyn controls much of its own growing environment through the lights and irrigation system, the two remaining factors are air temperature and humidity. These work in concert to control your plants' water uptake, nutrient assimilation and distribution, and photosynthetic potential. 

Photosynthesis is how plants produce their energy, so the rate of photosynthesis is often a measurement used to grasp how fast plants are growing. As growers, we look to maximize photosynthesis to produce the largest yields. 

While the presence of light is the “on/off switch” for photosynthesis, air temperature and humidity together act as the “volume knob” for photosynthesis.

• Higher temperatures with lower humidities mean your plants are drinking more, but photosynthesizing less.

• Lower temperatures with higher humidities mean your plants are drinking less, but photosynthesizing more.
