How to Replace the Irrigation Hoses Inside the Columns

If you need to replace your irrigation hoses to upgrade your Gardyn's watering system, follow these steps so they can be ready for action in no time.

How to Replace Irrigation Hoses

Written instructions (same as video)

To get started, you'll need a towel, a tray or countertop to place all of your plants, and a Phillips head screwdriver if you have a Gardyn Home 1.0/2.0.

Part 1: Disassemble your Gardyn's Upper Half

  • First, place the towel on the floor. Turn off your Gardyn and unplug the power supply from both your Gardyn's lid and the outlet.

  • Remove all of your plants in their yPods along with any Gardyn Caps and place them on a tray or clean countertop.

  • Lift your water pump to secure it in the upright position.

  • Open the lid locks, then lift by the columns to remove the upper half of your Gardyn and stand it on the towel.

  • Depending on your model, unplug or unscrew the back of the upper blades from the top of the columns along with the metal plates and metal bar.

Part 2: Disassemble your Gardyn's Columns & Remove the Hoses

  • Remove the columns by twisting each column's lowest module and lifting slightly, then detaching the irrigation hose connector to fully lift and remove the column.

  • Now, remove the top module from each column and set it aside. If you see an L-shaped metal holder, remove it and set it aside. If you see a white plastic clip, cut it off with the top of the hose and discard it. If you see a white silicone holder, take this off and set it aside.

  • Remove the hose by pulling it out from the bottom of each column.

  • Beginning with any column, separate it into module pairs, keeping the pairs in order.

Part 3: Install the New Hoses

  • Take the bottom pair of column modules and hold it up to a light. Identify the small hole where light comes through. This is where you will thread the new hose into each module pair. You can double-check each pair by holding it up to the light to identify the correct space.

  • Next, identify the bottom of the new hose by the connector. Take the new hose by the top end, without the connector, and the bottom pair of column modules.

  • Thread the hose up through the modules, pulling the hose through the top just until the connector is even with the bottom of the column.

  • Repeat this with each pair of column modules, twisting the modules together as you go so that all slots face the same direction. Do this until only the top module remains.

  • If you previously removed the metal hose holder, reattach it now by threading the hose up through the long side of the L first, then the short side, so that the irrigation hose gently bends down towards the column. If you previously removed the white silicone holder, put this back on the top end of the hoses now.

  • Gently pull the hose from the bottom of the column until the metal hose holder rests against the top of the upper column module.

  • If you do not have the metal hose holder, attach the upper end of your newly installed irrigation hose directly to the column by threading it through the cylindrical opening in the upper module.

  • Your hose should now have a natural curve, but no kinks. If you see a kink, gently pull the hose from the bottom of the column to remove some of the slack.

  • Now, reattach the upper column module. This column is now complete! Repeat with the other two columns, breaking them into module pairs and installing the new hose.

Part 4: Reassemble your Gardyn's Columns

  • When all columns are ready, reattach them to your lid by pushing the hose connector onto the opening in the lid until snug. Align the arrows on the column and lid, then twist to secure it.

  • Use the plugs or screwdriver to reattach the upper blades, metal plate, and metal bar to the backs of your columns.

  • Grasp by the columns to lift the upper half of your Gardyn back onto the lid. Lower the water pump, close the lid locks, and return your plants and any caps to the columns. Then plug in the power supply to your Gardyn's lid and an outlet. Flip the main power switch to turn your Gardyn on, and allow up to 5 minutes for your device to fully reboot.

  • After your Gardyn is successfully reconnected to your wifi and Gardyn app, test your new irrigation hoses by manually running a water cycle. To do this, tap the water widget in the app, toggle Water to On (green), and if you receive a pop-up, tap Proceed to continue with your test.

  • Ensure you hear water trickling down your columns, or remove the bottom yPod in each column to see the water dripping down inside your column. Either tap again to toggle the water cycle off, or let the cycle end automatically after 15 minutes. Don't worry, the extra water won't harm your plants.

Your new irrigation hoses are now ready to help your Gardyn thrive!
