Germination Tips: Start Your yCubes the Right Way

Edited

Overview

Germination is the first stage of growth, when seeds begin to sprout. The best way to start your yCubes depends on your current Gardyn and you’re goal.

Use this guide to choose the correct path and avoid common germination mistakes.

At a glance

  • If your Gardyn has plant food in the tank, do NOT place yCubes directly on you Gardyn—use the Soak Method instead.

  • Starting on an empty Gardyn? Set or reset your SOW date to activate Germination Mode.

  • Use water only during germination (no plant food).

  • Germination can take up to 21 days, depending on the variety.

What are you trying to do with your Gardyn?

I’m planting my first yCubes (Welcome Kit)

You’re starting your first grow cycle and planting yCubes directly on your Gardyn.

➡️Go to:: Start you First yCubes on Gardyn

📅Be sure to set your SOW date in the app.

I’m adding new yCubes to a Gardyn that already has plants

Your Gardyn already has plants growing and plant food in the tank.

📢To prevent poor germination, start your yCubes off the Gardyn using the Nursery Soak Method.

➡️Go to: How to Sprout yCubes in the Gardyn Sprout Nursery (Soak Method)

I’m starting a new generation on an empty Gardyn

Your Gardyn is cleared, and you’re starting fresh with no plant food in the tank.

➡️Go to: Starting Fresh: How to Grow a New Generation of yCubes on Gardyn

📅 Be sure to reset your SOW date in the app.

Avoid common germination mistakes

❌ Adding plant food during germination.

❌ Placing unsprouted yCues on a Gardyn that already has plant food in the tank.

❌ Oversaturating the rockwool (it hold water very well).

❌ Leaving cardboad covers on yCubes.

What to expect

  • Sprout may appear in 4 to 21 days, depending on the variety

  • Not all plants sprout at the same time

  • Early growth may look small or slow at first

This is normal during germination.

Why this matters

Starting yCubes the right ways helps prevent:

  • slow or failed germination

  • oversaturation from incorrect watering

  • poor early plant development
