Transitioning to Standard Dose

Edited

Standard dose is the transition from Sprout Dose to the next nutrient phase of Gardyn plant food.

This step ramps up both the overall tank volume and the nutrient strength so your plants have what they need as growth accelerates.

At a glance

  • Standard Dose=True Leaves & Vegetative Growth on the plant food bottle

  • One-time transition: sets the entire tank to the baseline ratio

  • Ratio: 1/2 tsp per gallon of water in your tank

  • Ramp tank to full volume

    • Home: 5 gallons

    • Studio: 4 gallons

  • Premix required: dissolve the full dose in a clean, food safe 1-gallon container, then pour in the tank

    • Note: The dose is based on total tank gallons.

  • This baseline remains in place until you optionally move to Blooming and Fruiting dose later.

What’s changing (And Why)

At Standard Dose:

  • Filled tank volume increases to full capacity (Home 5 gal | Studio 4 gal)

  • Nutrient strength increases to 1/2 tsp per gallon

This aligns with your plants’ development. At this stage, your plants are:

  • rooted

  • actively growing and photosynthesizing

  • using and needing more nutrients

Important: Standard Dose transition vs. tank topoffs (same ratio, different number of gallons)

  • Standard Dose transition (one-time):

You are setting the entire tank to the baseline ratio: 1/2 tsp per gallon in your tank. You premix the full amount into 1 gallon of water.

  • Top offs (going forward):

You maintain the same ratio by dosing for only the water you add: 1/2 tsp per gallon, added gallon by gallon.

Step by Step Mixing and Adding Standard Dose

Goal

Bring your tank to the full volume and establish the Standard Dose ratio (1/2 tsp per gallon).

Step 1: Premix your Standard Dose

Fill a clean, food-safe 1-gallon container with tap water. Add plant food based on your full tank volume:

  • Home (5 gallons): 2.5tsp

  • Studio (4 gallons) 2 tsp

This equals 1/2 tsp per gallon across your tank.

Mix or shake thoroughly until dissolved.

Step 2: Add to your tank

Pour the premixed solution into your tank.

Your system will circulate and distribute nutrients at the next scheduled watering.

What happens next

Once your tank is at Standard Dose strength, the focus shifts to maintenance:

  • Top off as needed: Keep your tank near full for best results.

  • Dose gallon by gallon: For every gallon of water you add, dissolve 1/2 tsp plant food and add it to the tank.

  • Monthly tank refresh: About once a month, you’ll do a full tank refresh to reset water quality and keep your system running clean.

  • maintain water quality and nutrient consistency gallon by gallon during topoffs.

Why Timing Matters

Delaying Standard Dose can leave nutrient strength too low during a rapid growth phase which may lead to:

  • slower development

  • reduced yield

  • stalled plant growth

Complete this transition promptly so your plants stay on track.
