I'm moving - how do I pack & move my Gardyn?

Edited

We know moving is already a logistics jigsaw, so we hope these tips help you fit your Gardyn into your plans as easily as possible.

Below we offer tips to move with your plants intact whenever possible, but it's always an option to start fresh with all new plants if you want to simplify even further.

Please note that Gardyn cannot be held responsible for damages caused by your personal packing and shipping methods. Pack and move your device with care!

Moving by car/truck

In all of these scenarios, set up your Gardyn in your new space and fill it with fresh water and plant food as soon as possible so you can activate a watering cycle and let your plants rehydrate.

My Gardyn will be plugged back in within the same day.

My Gardyn will NOT be plugged back in for another 24-48 hours.

I have room to stand or lay the upper portion of my Gardyn in my car

  • Don't worry about removing your plants from the columns.

  • Empty your water tank and reattach it to the upper half of your Gardyn using the lid locks.

  • If you only have room to lay your Gardyn at an angle (keeping the light bars above the columns), still empty your water tank and reattach it, but add a towel beneath the base/columns to catch any drips as a result of the angle.

  • You'll need to remove your plants from the columns.

  • Run a water cycle before pulling your plants out by the yPod (keep the yCubes in their yPods). Place them in a tray, ideally with some sides to contain spilled water, and stand them up if possible to retain as much water in their yPods as possible.

  • Until your plants can go back on your Gardyn, monitor your yPods' water level. It's okay for a yPod to look dry for about an hour or so as the roots will continue to hold water for the plant, but if you know it will be many hours before your plants are back on your Gardyn, we suggest manually refilling the yPods in the tray.

  • Don't worry about using just tap water for this manual refill! Of course you can use 1/2 teaspoon of plant food dissolved in a gallon of water, but a short-term water-only refill is just fine as well.

Moving by plane/shipping

You'll need to disassemble your Gardyn so it can dry, allowing you to pack it in whatever size suitcase or moving box you have.

While it is possible to travel with live plants in most of the US, it can be expensive and risky to the plants' survival. Instead, we recommend harvesting your plants as much as possible before moving, then starting fresh with all new ones once you're set up in your new space.

If you're determined to fly with or ship your plants, check with your airline/shipping partner for their rules and regulations.

I actually just want to move my Gardyn to a different space in my home....

No problem! Turning off/unplugging your Gardyn will not reset your SOW Date or disrupt Kelby's ability to help you once your Gardyn is turned back on. Your Gardyn should automatically reconnect to your WiFi within five minutes of powering on.

The easiest way to make your Gardyn mobile while protecting your floors is to use a Gardyn Dolly, which comes in both Home and Studio sizes.

Alternatively, you can try sliding your Gardyn (with the water tank still attached) onto a towel and carefully pulling it around. Never attempt to lift a full Gardyn, and only ever lift/pull a weight that you deem personally safe for you.

You could also separate the water tank from the upper half so you can move the water tank first and the upper portion second. When moving the upper half, always grab by the columns, never the light bars. Grab from either the front or back of your columns, whichever seems easiest to you.
