Succession Planting for Continuous Harvests

Edited

Succession planting means starting new plants in planned intervals so you have continuous harvests as they mature. Read as: less time waiting, more time enjoying!

You're already maximizing the use of your space with your Gardyn, so succession planting helps you get the most out of your time as well by ensuring you always have something fresh and tasty to harvest.

Follow our recommendations, below, to take the guesswork out of planning your Gardyn harvests. Keep in mind how many of each plant you might enjoy growing at once, as well as how many open slots on your Gardyn you'll need to accommodate them.

For continuous harvests of these plants:

Start germinating a new yCube every:

Arugula, Bok Choy, Bull’s Blood Beet Greens, Cilantro, Green Mustard, Red Mustard, Tatsoi

1 week

Basil, Beans, Dill, Endive, Italian Parsley, Lettuce, Purple Kohlrabi, Snap Peas, Tokyo Bekana

2 weeks

Cherry Tomatoes, Cucumbers, Kale, Swiss Chard

3 weeks

Eggplants, Peppers

8 weeks

When it's time to germinate replacement yCubes, remember that plant food inhibits germination, so you should keep new yCubes and young sprouts off your Gardyn and separate from mature plants! Click here for more tips on germinating your new yCubes.

In addition to following our germination timing, above, keep an eye on your leafy greens and herbs for signs of bolting. A natural part of the plant life cycle, bolting indicates your plants' are nearing the end of their life and will stop producing leaves soon.
