Replacing Individual Modules of a Column

Edited

If you need to replace pieces of a column, called modules, follow these steps so they can be ready for action in no time. The same steps are written below the video:

To get started, you'll need a tray or countertop to place all of your plants, and a Phillips head screwdriver if you have a Gardyn 1.0 or 2.0.

First, turn off your Gardyn and unplug the power supply from both your Gardyn's lid and the outlet.

From the column you'll be working on, remove all of your plants in their yPods along with any Gardyn Caps and place them on a tray or clean countertop.

Depending on your model, unplug or unscrew the back of the upper blades from the top of the columns along with the metal plates and metal bar.

Remove the column you're working on by twisting the lowest module and lifting slightly, then detaching the irrigation hose connector to fully lift and remove the column.

Now, twist to remove the top module from the column and set it aside. If you see an L-shaped metal holder or a white plastic cage holder, remove these and set them aside. If you see a small white plastic clip, cut it off with the top of the hose and discard it.

Remove the hose by pulling it out from the bottom of the column.

Separate the column into module pairs, keeping the pairs in order.

Next, identify and remove the specific module you're replacing, swapping it with the new one. For proper assembly, it's important not to rearrange any of the other modules!

Now you'll work with the modules in pairs. Take the bottom pair and hold it up to a light. Identify the small hole where light comes through. This is where you'll thread the hose back into each module pair. You can double-check each pair by holding it up to the light as you go.

Next, identify the bottom of the hose by the connector. Take the hose by the top end, without the connector, and the bottom pair of column modules.

Thread the hose up through the modules, pulling the hose through the top just until the connector is even with the bottom of the column.

Repeat this with each pair of column modules, twisting the modules together as you go so that all slots face the same direction. Do this until only the top module remains.

If you previously removed the metal hose holder, reattach it now by threading the hose up through the long side of the L first, then the short side, so that the irrigation hose gently bends down towards the column. If you removed the white plastic cage holder, thread the hose through it and insert the holder's end into the hose's top. Ensure the top of the hose is kink-free in the holder.

Gently pull the hose from the bottom of the column until the metal hose holder rests against the top of the upper column module, or until the plastic cage holder can clip onto the module.

If you don't have either hose holder, attach the upper end of your irrigation hose directly to the column by threading it through the cylindrical opening in the upper module. Your hose should now have a natural curve, but no kinks. If you see a kink, gently pull the hose from the bottom of the column to remove some of the slack.

Now, reattach the upper column module. This column is now complete!

Push the hose connector onto the opening in the lid until snug, or attach the bottom of the hose to the 90 degree connector. Then align the arrows on the column and lid and twist to secure it.

Use the plugs or screwdriver to reattach the upper blades, metal plate, and metal bar to the backs of your columns.

Return your plants and any caps to the column. Then plug in the power supply to your Gardyn's lid and an outlet. Flip the main power switch to turn your Gardyn on, and allow up to 5 minutes for your device to fully reboot.

After your Gardyn is successfully reconnected to your wifi and Gardyn app, test your assembly by manually running a water cycle. To do this, tap the water level tile in the app, toggle Watering to on, and if you're using Kelby Assist, tap Proceed to continue with your test. Ensure you hear water trickling down your columns, or remove the bottom yPod in each column to see the water dripping down. Either tap again to toggle the water cycle off, or let the cycle end automatically after 15 minutes. Don't worry, the extra water won't harm your plants.

Your Gardyn is now ready to get back to growing!
